How long does it take to fill a cavity using different materials?

1.Composite Resin: When this material is used as filling it takes more time but one visit is sufficient.

2.Composite fillings: when some composite filling is used as a material it takes time and requires a second visit to bond the filling to the tooth.

3.Gold or porcelain: When this material is used as a filling, it is known as inlays or onlay, which can’t be done in one visit. It generally requires two visits to complete the process.

In the first visit, the cavity is removed and the tooth impression is made which is sent to the lab and the filling is fabricated. In the second visit, the filling is bonded to the tooth.

Older fillings need the same amount of time to replace the new fillings. The older fillings need to be removed and the new fillings have to be inserted.
