How To Cook Brats On Stove

Introduction

Brat is a German sausage that has been on meat lovers’ favorite list for ages. Everybody thinks brats are good only when you cook over the grill. This is not the truth.

Besides, I feel it’s way better if you know how to cook brats on the stove in the right way. Today, I am going to share my take on brats cooking on the stove and lick your dish with you. 

Preparations

You can use many different methods to cook brats. Some people like to add beer or wine to their food, where others don’t. So whatever your choice is, make all the arrangements before you start the actual cooking.

Ingredients

  • 4 bratwurst sausages
  • 2 Tablespoon unsalted butter 
  • 1 onion quartered
  • 1 cup beer

Instructions

  1. Place a heavy pan over the stove, for that cast-iron skillet is the best one. 
  2. Now start your stove at medium-high heat and let the pan get heated up.
  3. Add 2 tablespoons of butter and let it melt. Wait for your butter to melt and show a brown color.
  4. Puncher your brats with a fork to avoid the risk of bursting in high heat. And start searing on both sides. Sear for 3 minutes at least to get golden brown color.
  5. Now add sliced onion to the pan and sear till it turns golden.
  6. Add the whole cup of beer to the skillet and close the lid. 
  7. Let the brats cook for 10 minutes with the lid closed until they reach an internal temperature of 160° F.
  8. After 10 minutes, take out the brats and place them on a plate.
  9. Keep the beer and onions cooking, but don’t cover with the lid. Let the sauce reduce and get denser. 
  10. After 4 to 5 minutes, take out the sauce, and you got a dipping sauce to enjoy with brats.

Recipe Notes

  • Punching the brats on both sides is a good strategy because of internal heat brats can burst. 
  • Don’t cook brats open because you will lose a lot of flavors. A closed lid also minimizes the cooking time. If you try to cook your brats in an open pot, it will take longer to hit an internal temperature of 160°F.
  • You can use chicken broth or beef broth instead of beer. Also, just water is fine if you can’t manage. However, if you are comfortable with alcohol in your food, then Belgian ale is an excellent addition.
